Abstract: Organizations and groups that have vital interestsand concerns about federal government policy relating to phases of agriculture, food production, and distribution in the late 1970's are identified and described. Lobbyists concerned with wilderness, natural resources, public lands, energy production, and transportation are not included. Groups and committees described include: Congress and the Agricultural Committees; producer advocates (Farm Bureau, Cooperative organizations, National Grange); middlemen representing agricultural products (tobacco, cotten, peanuts, or food stamp program, and international trade); citizen or consumer groups; professional organizations (research and extension); and political action committees. Strategies and tactics of these lobbyists are explored as well as their future role. Appendixes include directories oforganizations (name, address, telephone number, description, membership numbers etc.), Senate and house subcommittees related to agriculture (1979-1980), list of network of mutual support (groups with little or no membership who assist one another), and contributions by political-action committees (1977-1978).
