Extract: The purpose of this article is to review briefly sections of the Railroad Revitalization and Regulatory Reform Act of 1976 that pertain to Michigan rail interests. consideration is also given to Michigan rail service continuation contracts, identifying contract parties and contract terms, such as rail lines to be serviced, frequency of rail service and estimates of revenues, costs, and subsidy payments. a map, illustrating ownership and service patterns of Michigan's lower penisula rail system is presented. finally, brief consideration is given to the importance of active rail user and rail community support of Michigan rail lines now and in the future.
