Abstract: This text consists of reviews on lipoprotein lipase, which are limited to the detailed examination of only certain aspects of the enzyme. This text is intended to serve as a major source of reference to investigators interested in the enzyme and its function in normal and pathological conditions. Aspects of the enzyme considered in this discussion are: measurement of activity; role during lactation and in metabolic adaptation to exercise and training; lipoprotein lipase in adipose tissue, heart and skeleton muscle and from milk; activity in hypertriglyceridemias, diabetes, trauma and sepsis; comparative biochemistry and physiology.
