The 1st section describes the main features of water demand across categories of users and of water supply. The 2nd examines the potential roles and limitations of EIs, principally prices, taxes, and water markets. The 3rd section presents lessons from experience, and explores policy tools to complement the use of EIs. The conclusion proposes possible research directions.
