An interpretative phenomenological analysis of interview data

Data for Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) studies are typically, though not always, collected via semi-structured interviews. This data exemplar comes from a study conducted by Dr Johanna Spiers now located at the University of Bristol and Professor Jonathan A. Smith from Birkbeck University. The project explored the experiences of those waiting for a kidney transplant in the United Kingdom. Included in the dataset are verbatim extracts from three interviews with participants discussing whether they would be more comfortable with a living or deceased donor. A selection of the steps involved in conducting IPA are demonstrated. Convergences and divergences between the participants experiences are extrapolated and commented upon. The dataset will be most useful to those embarking on an IPA project and for those who wish to strength their experiential qualitative analysis skills.
