Abstract: A brief overview conceptualizes the implementation of food technology research priorities, developed in a 1984 workshop, from an academic viewpoint. Specific attention is given to implementation guidelines, including the development of long-range strategic research plans that emphasize beneficial impacts on individuals and society; the development of an enhanced public awareness of the importance of the identified research needs; and the development of enhanced food technology research relationships between academe, industry, and federal and state governments.
