Abstract: A reference text addressing various aspects of eating behavior presents 8 authoritative reviews by experts from 5 countries (US, England, France, Australia, Scotland) for clinical psychologists and psychiatrists dealing with patients having adverse eating bevahiors. Attention is focused on: the nature, epidemiology, clinical aspects, and treatment of bulimia and anorexia nervosa; behavior modification approaches in treating obese patients; hunger, satiety, and eating behaviors and preferences in early infancy and childhood; the concept and underlying mechanisms of palatability; mental signals affecting meal size; and the cognitive experimental psychology of appetite. Eating behavior descriptions, diagnoses, behavioral therapies, and theoretical models are presented throughout the text.
