This report was produced for the Middle East Supply Centre, an institution set up by the British in 1941 for keeping supplies for basic life needs open to populations in the Middle East over which Britain had control. This report is the second in a series of four, the other three covering the topics of agricultural development, rural education and welfare, and animal industry. This report is a survey of the lands and people of the region via various scientific fields. Geology, meteorology, water analysis, biology, forestry, marine fisheries, human diseases, nutrition, health and medical services, and population and social studies are included. The report collates existing literature on each area.
