Extract: International trade in feeds outpaced trade in livestock products during the 1970's, reflecting a trend toward greater domestic livestock production and the inability of some countries to keep feed production in line with demand. Trade in feeds, poultry, and dairy products grew faster in the 1970's than in the 1960's, while trade in red meats grew at a much slower pace. Long-term trade patterns will be influenced not only by technological advances for each commodity but also by trade policies, consumers' preferences, and cultural practices.
