Nutritional support: enhancing the quality of life of the terminally ill patient with cancer
1984
Wade, E.V. | Jain, R.
An approach to quality nutrition care for patients with terminal diseases is described, using a medical center palliative-care unit. Attention is given to the operation of the unit and to the role and activities of the dietitian (including 7 identified responsibities of the dietitian). Factors that must be considered in formulating the initial nutritional assessment of patients are evaluated. It is concluded that the clinical dietitian in their program must be actively involved in initiating, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient nutrition care plans as well as in providing comfort to the patient in terms of maintaining good nutritional health for as long as possible.
