Cefazolin was administered to 20 lactating mothers to obtain information on the transfer of this antibiotic into breast milk. Intravenous doses of 2 gm of cefazolin were infused, and milk samples obtained after two, three and four hours were analyzed biologically by the well-plate-agar-diffusion methods. The peak level of cefazolin in the milk was reached at three hours, but the amounts in all cases were extremely small. Even so, the antibiotic activity at these low levels may disturb the intestinal flora of the intestine. Further study is needed.
