Microtubules in interphase nuclei of Aesculus hippocastanum L
1991
Barnett, J.R.
Interphase nuclei of cambial cells and their derivatives in dormant and active, juvenile and mature stems of Aesculus hippocastanum L. contain bundles of microtubules. Each bundle comprises between ten and 50 microtubules arranged parallel to one another and often in a paracrystalline hexagonal array. One end of the bundle is associated with the nucleolus and merges into it. No distinct terminal structures have been found, although in some cases the end distal from the nucleolus lies close to the nuclear membrane. No definite role can be suggested for these structures as yet, but their presence in interphase nuclei, coupled with their association with the nucleolus, is indicative of involvement in the normal activity of the nucleolus.
