Recommended allowance; science as social policy
1985
Smith, J.
The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA's) were established in 1945. Since that time, they have been reviewed and revised every 5 years. During the past 40 years, the RDA's have been used in increasingly more statutory and regulatory programs. Nutrition education, food labeling, and product formulation have all been designed in accordance with standards set by the RDA's. The federal food and nutrition programs have also been developed in accordance to the RDA's. Continued evaluations of the RDA's by the committee can ensure adequate nutrition standards in the future.(lsp)
