Governmental entities and officials have long relied on immunity defenses when facing litigation; protection is not guaranteed, however. It helps to understand the principles of different kinds of immunities, including exceptions, interpretations, and applications. Certain recent water contamination cases involving municipalities and utilities illustrate the complexities and new trends regarding immunity defenses.
