Students show off with posters

Students participate in nutrition education learning activities and develop a school lunch menu. This was part of the Tuloso-Midway Independent School District in Corpus Christi's effort to recognize National Nutrition Time. Elementary students are invited to the cafeteria to partake in a nutrition lesson, where the major nutrients and their food sources are discussed. Vegetables are used for a tasting party. Children then develop lunch menus for the next month based on their new food and nutrition information. These menus are identified by class after the whole menu is developed. Students in grades 3-8 also participate in a nutrition poster contest. The winner receives a stuffed animal. The completed menus go home to parents who are invited to join the children for lunch. Parent participation is high. (kbc)
