Wing, R.R. | Nowalk, M.P. | Epstein, L.H. | Koeske, R.
A study compared the nutritional adequacy of the diet of overweight patients with Type II diabetes who were randomly assigned to follow an exchange system diet or a calorie-counting diet that was used in the context of a behavior modification program. Patients on both diets decreased their proportion of calories from fat intake, and the average intakes exceeded the RDA's for all nutrients except calcium. The results indicate that such patients can improve the nutritional adequacy of their intakes while following either of the 2 types of diets.(wz)
