Residual Lipid Contaminants in Processed Wool: Effect on Permanganate-Salt Shrinkproofing
1966
Anderson, C.A. | Leeder, J.D.
The effect of the site and composition of lipid-type contaminants on the permanganate- salt shrinkproofing process has been studied. Contaminant on the fiber surface ad versely affects the shrinkproofing reaction, although most of the extractable matter is situated inside the fibers. Additives which might be expected to contaminate wool during normal processing were applied to the fabric ; their effect on the shrinkproofing treatment varied with the chemical nature of the additives.
