Estimates of daily individual food intakes obtained by food image processing

Individual food consumption of ten adults was estimated using a recently proposed photographic food intake record. The recording procedure for daily intakes is described, together with the procedure for computer calculation of food amounts and nutrient content from the photographic record. Subjects kept an individually weighed food intake record for the same day. Results indicate that the daily nutrient intakes estimated from photographs compared well with those obtained from a weighed record. It is concluded that the method requires further study and adaptation for use in full-scale surveys.
