Reaction of UO₂(OTf)₂ with 5 molar equivalents of NEt₄CN in acetonitrile led to the formation of the pentacyano uranyl complex [NEt₄]₃[UO₂(CN)₅] which is monomeric in the solid state with the five C-coordinated cyanide ions lying in the equatorial plane perpendicular to the linear {UO₂} axis.
