The quality of life in Canada--including improved nutrition, agriculture, and health science--has improved immeasurably during the 20th century. However, expanding urbanization and population have tended to minimize the importance of productive--or "good"--land in agricultural production; in fact, both these factors are removing prime farm land from the agricultural land use pool. Conservation of farm land in all except the 3 Prairie Provinces is a necessity if Canada is to remain food self-sufficient. Canada is also doing badly in the area of energy conservation. An awareness of the necessity of a conserver attitude is required so that future Canadian generations may also enjoy a good and secure life.
