The need for and some of the barriers to the establishment of effective agricultural policies for alleviating world hunger are briefly discussed. Topics include policy approaches to promote food production, the difficulties faced by policy makers in developing countries due to food demand and food price elasticities, and the need to maintain food quality while increasing food production.
