A survey of the occurrence of aflatoxin B1 in peanut butters by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay
1988
Mortimer, D.N. | Shepherd, M.J. | Gilbert, J. | Morgan, M.R.A.
A 1986 analytical study using an aflatoxin B1-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method assessed levels of the toxic carcinogen aflatoxin B1 in peanut butter purchased in health food stores in 25 geographical regions in England. It was found that 14% of the samples contained detectable levels of aflatoxin B1 (detection limit, 2.5 ppm), with 6% exceeding 10 ppm. This assay method was found to provide much faster results than high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); similarities and differences in the results between the assay method and HPLC are discussed.(wz)
