On farm testing (OFT) on assessment of gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) cv. pusa chandni cultivation for yield and economics in Meerut district

The present investigation was conducted during 2016–17 and 2017–18 for two years to assess the performance of high yielding gladiolus variety Pusa Chandnicultivation for yield and economics in Meerut district. The improved variety Pusa Chandni was planted along with local variety White prosperity as check in 0.3ha each in the fields of three farmers at Pipli Khera and Lawar villages in block of Kharkounda and Sardhana in Meerut district during October 2016–17 and 2017–18. The results revealed that among the varieties Pusa Chandni recorded significantly higher number of spikes per plant (1.25 no./plant), number of flowers per spike (13.88 no./spike), spike length (56.60cm), and flower spike yield per hectare (128520 no. of spike/ha). The economic parameters viz., benefit cost ratio (2.34:1), marginal benefit cost ratio (28.26) and relative economic efficiency (31.03) were recorded more in Pusa Chandni than White prosperity varieties of gladiolus. The Pusa Chandni variety showed superiority over White prosperity and found suitable for western part of Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh.
