Corrected body weights of mothers and infants before and after a night's sleep were used to estimate night-time infant breast milk intakes, with differences in maternal body weight loss and infant body weight gain correlated to their combined net evaporative water loss (EWL). This method was validated in Thai infants and mothers. The theoretical basis of the association between body weight changes and EWL are discussed.(wz)
