Prenatal fluoride supplements
1984
Evidence concerning the benefits of maternal use of fluoride to prevent dental caries is reviewed and discussed. Current evidence indicates that F crosses the placenta, with fetal and maternal F blood levels in a steady state. Children whose mothers took F supplements had whiter, virtually caries-free teeth than did children whose mothers did not take F supplements, with no evidence of fluorsis. (wz)
