A technical report summarizes the results of 5 case studies over the past 6 years in caring for young infants with severe chronic diarrhea. The importance of gastrointestinal allergy or intolerance to multiple food components in the pathogenesis of such diarrhea is emphasized. Specific attention is given to: the diagnosis of intestinal allergy or intolerances of multiple foods; and the use of a chicken-rice diet for treating severe chronic diarrhea in early infancy.
