Changes in plasma lipoproteins due to alcohol consumption
1985
A recent study indicates that alcohol consumption elevates plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides, the latter of which is associated with elevated very-low density lipoprotein triglyceride synthesis, especially in obese subjects or subjects who are predisposed to hyperlipidemia. The results and implications of this study are reviewed and discussed relative to other alcohol-lipid effect studies. Further research is needed to elucidate dose-response relationships. (wz)
