Case study weight control and retardation
1978
Schoenwetter, Charles D.
A behavioral approach for weight control for a 12 year old girl with Down's Syndrome is described. She was asked to gradually change her eating habits. Family members, school personnel and some classroom peers were involved in the plan. Frequent reinforcers were used of a non nutrient type. Calories were not counted, but patterns of calorie consumption were examined. Significant behaviors included eating in one chair at home, counting between bites, increased physical activity, and rehearsals of verbal responses to teasing.
