Measurement of resin and wax distribution on wood flakes
1996
Kamke, F.A. | Lenth, C.A. | Saunders, H.G.
A method was successfully developed and demonstrated for the measurement of distribution parameters of phenol-formaldehyde resins, polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate resin, and lignosulfonate-based emulsion wax on the surface of wood flakes. The method is questionable for slack wax and soap-based emulsion wax. The system consists of a fluorescence microscope, video camera, frame grabber board, a personal computer, and image processing and analysis software. All of this equipment is commercially available in Canada and the United States and can be easily adapted for a mill environment. The method was tested on flakes prepared in the laboratory and on flakes obtained from 11 different oriented strandboard mills.
