Correlation of membrane diffusion capacity & capillary blood volume with haemoglobin concentration & calorie intake
1987

Extract: Membrane diffusing capacity (Dm) and pulmonary capillary blood volume (Vc) were measured in 161 healthy, non-smokers of both sexes in the age group of 18-64 yr. Subjects were divided into three major groups according to age and further subdivided on the basis of haemoglobin concentration and calorie intake per day. Results obtained using computerized Morgan's transfer test model 'C' along with spiro data dec (employing single breath technique), indicated that Dm decreased and Vc increased with lower haemoglobin concentration and less calorie intake in 70 per cent of subjects. The effect was more pronounced in males and also with change in haemoglobin concentration, as compared to calorie intake.(author)
