Impact of front line demonstrations on yield and economics of tomato in Ambala district of Haryana

Tomato is a major vegetable crop in Ambala district of Haryana. One of the major constraints of lowproductivity of this vegetable may be due to partial adoption of recommended package of practices by thetomato growers. The present study was undertaken to address the yield gap through FLDs on Tomatocrop. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ambala (Haryana) conducted 35 demonstrations on tomato since 2015-16and 2018 in different locations of the districts. Front line demonstrations tomato recorded the higheryield in the year 2015 (357q/ha) than farmers practice (305 q/ha), year 2016 (268q/ha) than farmerspractice (240 q/ha) and the year 2018 (340.75q/ha) than farmers practice (295 q/ha). The Percentageincrease in the yield (17.04), (11.66) and (15.50) respectively the year (2015–16) and 2018 over farmerspractice was recorded. The cost of cultivation (Rs/ha) during year 2015–16 and 2018 was 60000, 65000and 60000 respectively in demonstration sown tomato. While it was 66000, 72000 and 56000 in farmerssown fields. The BCR was 7.14, 4.93 and 4.54 in the demonstrated technology, which was higher than infarmers sowing 5.54, 3.00 and 2.834.21.
