1978
Katzman, M.T. | Matlin, R.W.
Extract: This paper assesses the potential of solar photovoltaic technology for irrigation. First, the critical role of energy costs in arid regions is demonstrated. Second, the nature of solar photovoltaic systems and the technological, economic, and political uncertainties surrounding their adoption is discussed. Third, a parametric cost-benefit analysis identifies those contingencies to which the viability of the innovation is most sensitive. The numerical results presented for West Texas include the time of initial profitability, the time of optimal investment, and the pattern of tax incentives necessary to accelerate the rate of adoption.
