A clinical report provides practical information concerning the provision of complete nutrition to hospitalized patients using catheters whose tips lie in a central vein. Specific attention is given to: the need for various intravenous nutrients (protein, amino acids, carbohydrates, fats, electrolytes, minerals, vitamins); information and practical guidelines concerning central vein cannulation; catheter care and catheter sepsis; and intravenous feeding delivery systems and flow control.
