Computer systems that can be used to improve food service efficiency are discussed. Systems available are: point-of-sales (POS) terminal which is a high-tech register with menu items on the keys (the way this terminal functions is described); and the video system (an electronic blackboard which assists a POS system). The information put into the system must be good, otherwise inadequate information will be retrieved. Several software programs that can perform many functions (e.g. financial) are discussed. Tips are given that can aid in the selection of hardware and a vendor. (kbc)
