Inheritance of rosette-raceme in guar
1988
Abnormal plants occur from time to time in cultivated fields of guar[Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub]. Abnormalities due to genetic change have potential for use as genetic markers in a breeding program. A mutant having a rosette-raceme and reduced fertility was found in a released breeding line, TX76-3285, growing near Hluwe in Natal, South Africa. Inheritance of the rosette-raceme trait was investigated. Rosette-raceme was found to be inherited as a monogenic recessive and is expressed on every raceme. The name rosette-raceme and the genesymbol, ros, are proposed for the new mutant trait. This trait should be useful in genetic studies as an easily identifiable phenotype.
