A model for oxygen consumption of Atlantic salmon (Salmo Salar) based on measurements of individual fish in a tunnel respirometer

A model for oxygen consumption of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) including body-weight (BW, kg), temperature (T, degrees C) and swimming speed (U, bodylengths s(-1)) was developed. A multiregression analysis of 157 measurement periods on six different fish gave the model: V(O2) (mg kg(-1) h(-1)) = 61.6(+/- 6.6) BW(-0.33(+/- 0.11)) 1.03(+/- 0.10)T 1.79(+/- 0.10)U. The model is compared with earlier work on oxygen consumption of salmonids.
