Integrating nutrition into medical and public health programs
1980
The 3 processes which connect scientific endeavor to the welfare of the public are evaluating current knowledge and research initiatives, applying medical knowledge to patient care, and formulating policy. In the field of nutrition, integration efforts are focused on better nutrition education for medical students, resolving controversies of clinical nutrition, and providing better guidelines for the public on the relationship between diet and disease. Nutrition education for medical students should focus on ecological and physiological issues. A conservative approach is advocated in the resolution of nutrition controversies, based on mutually supportive evidence from different disciplines.
