Choosing a computerized nutrient analysis
1985
Taub-Dix, B.
More than 2000 computer programs related to nutrition are currently available. Most programs provide an analysis of a one- to three-day diet record and the level of physical activity over the same period. More advanced programs can also be used to plan specialized diets, analyze food costs, evaluate menus against nutrient standards, forecast food and labor needs, and conduct research and computer surveys. Sufficient documentation is essential in computerized analysis programs to prevent the misinterpretation or misuse of information by consumers and professionals. A checklist highlights some key considerations in selecting a program that is easy to use and well-suited to one's individual needs (cost, documentation, data base, hardware requirements, format of results, updates/revisions).(aje)
