The vegetarian diet according to Mahatma Ghandi
1979
Mahatma Ghandi's essay on vegetarianism is featured. His philosophy evolved from an oath made to his mother, from personally conducted dietary experiments, and for moral and religious reasons. Meat promotes tooth decay, rheumatism and evil passions like anger. Our internal organs are ideally suited to roots, fruits and vegetables. Milk foods are also necessary for health. For moral and spiritual reasons, we should cease killing animals for food, eat sparingly, and fast occasionally. The vegetarian needs to be tolerant to convert others, emphasizing moral not physical consequences.
