Stubby Head, an Induced Facultative Apomict in Pearl Millet
1973
Hanna, W. W. | Powell, J. B.
Stubby head is a multi-ovary, -ovule, -embryo sac mutant induced in pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf. and Hubb.) by dual tr eatment of the rmal neutrons and diethyl sulfate. The mutant has shortened internodes and flattened stems and produces a rosette of leaves around a stubby inflorescence. Cytological tests and progeny tests indicate that it is a facultative apomict. This mutant could make a significant contribution to the improvement of pearl millet if it can be developed into a usable form.
