Biochemical and anthropometric evaluation of the nutritional status of 35-year-old Dutch men with reference to smoking and drinking habits

As part of a study for the detection of cardiovascular risk factors the nutritional status of sixty 35-year-old men was evaluated. A questionnaire regarding smoking, alcohol consumption, medical history, and vitamin supplements was completed. Blood levels were determined for hemoglobin, ferritin, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, zinc, selenium, cholesterol, and high density lipoprotein. Blood pressure and body mass index were also measured. The influence of smoking and alcohol consumption on the biochemical indicators of nutritional status and cardiovascular risk factors was assessed.
