Sustainable utilization of ornamental plant resources and poverty reduction in China's western region

Constrained by natural, economic and social factors, features and advantages for rich wild ornamental plant resources in Western China have not yet been fully felt on the process of western regions’ economic and social development. The distribution and potential values of the wild resources are tentatively summarized by consulting related data. Meanwhile, we investigated the geographic coupling relationship between concentrated distribution areas of wild plant resources and poverty stricken areas, analyzed the contribution of horticultural production to the provincial poverty reduction, taking Sichuan and Yunnan for examples. Combined with series of strategy and planning of the Development of China’s West, we discussed the opportunity and development expectation on characteristic horticulture industry of Western China. The advice on sustainable utilization of wild ornamental plant resources was given finally, aiming at promoting poverty reduction by means of developing horticulture industry of Western China.
