Metabolic levels in eel blood after lindane treatment
1991
Ferrando, M.D. | Andreu, E. | Fernandez-Casalderrey, A.
Eels (A. anguilla) were exposed to a subletal lindane concentration (1/2 LC50-96h = 0.335 ppm). Blood samples were taken after various periods (0-96hr) of exposure. Serum concentrations of glucose, lactate, cholesterol and total lipids were determined. Glucose levels increased significantly after 6h treatment with respect to the control values. Lactate levels increased significantly too, but after 12h treatment. Cholesterol values decreased after 6h treatment and continued decreasing gradually until 72h treatment. Total lipids increased after 6h treatment but these values decreased between 12 and 96h. The results are produced by the pesticide and related responses of the fish.
