Le TV dinner
1984
Warshaw, Hopes
The dramatic change in frozen TV dinners tending towards low-calorie and gourmet frozen dinners is illustrated and discussed. The main way most low-calorie frozen dinners get to be low in calories is by offering smaller serving sizes, but some reduce their calorie content through the generous use of vegetables. Low-calorie frozen dinners range from 140-410 calories per serving while gourmet dinners range from 270-500 calories per serving, thereby offering an overlap in calorie content. Menus including a frozen dinner are compared to standard meal plans for 400 and for 700 calories. Guidelines are included for preparing personal frozen dinners in the home. A frozen dinner comparison chart listing calories, carbohydrates, fat, protein, sodium, and food exchange equivalents is included. (wz)
