Behavior therapy in the management of obesity
1989
Foreyt, J.P.
Behavior therapy in the management of obesity has changed considerably since its initial use in the 1960s and 1970s. Length of treatment has increased from 8 weeks in the mid-1970s to 13 weeks by 1984 to about 15 weeks in 1989. Weight losses still average about 1.2 lb/week, and now the average posttreatment result is commonly a loss of about 20 lbs. Behavioral intervention programs are also very different today than in the past. They are much more comprehensive and consist of much more than self-monitoring and stimulus control.
