Assessment of forest condition and its development on a sampling set of forest management plans in Slovakia

The sampling set for the analysis of forest condition and its development was formed by comparable databases of forest management plans (FMP) with effect from 1987, 1997, 2007 and data from the forest records (FR) from the 1997-2006 period. The paper provides an analysis of forest condition development based on the aggregated data from FMP and FR. The analysis in particular focuses on trends in basic forest indicators observed in the researched period. The analysed set included the following indicators: functional forest category; forms of silvicultural systems; age structure; tree species composition; production indicators; and future trend predictions.The achieved results expressed by positive trends are associated with the implementation of close-to-nature silvicultural systems, optimisation of tree species composition and improvements in production indicators, which combined together, resulted in higher volumes of planned felling.
