Education and participation of patients and their families
1983
Etzwiler, Donnell D.
Factors to be considered in enlisting the continuing participation of diabetic children and their families in educational programs are discussed. The education plan should be divided into 3 phases: acute, or survival, information for immediate management of the disease; in-depth information; and continuing education. In-depth information can be provided by a 5-day ambulatory program for the patients and their families. A 22-topic curriculum for this course is outlined. Aspects of a continuing education program also are described, the goal of which is to review the basic concepts of the disease, transmit new knowledge, and to stimulate the continuing interest and participation in the control process.
