This study was conducted to assess the spatial distribution of pollutants in stormwater runoff from four areas at Cluj-Napoca city, Romania having different land uses (commercial, industrial, low density residential and high density residential). The water samples were taken from the collection points established across each of the four sites, during six rain events sufficiently intense to generate surface runoff. In laboratory, the following parameters were analysed: ammoniacal nitrogen (N(NH4+)), fluorides (F-), chlorides (Cl-), nitrites (NO2-), nitrates (NO3-), sulphates (SO42-), phosphates (PO43-), total nitrogen (N(T)), organic nitrogen (N(O)), total phosphorus (P(T)), boron (B), lead (Pb), total iron (FeT), copper (Cu), potassium (K), sodium (Na), pH conductivity, alkalinity, suspended solids, filtered and dried residue, hardness, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical oxygen demand (COD-Cr), oxidizable organic substances (CCO-Mn), synthetic detergents, petroleum products. The results showed considerable spatial variation of pollutants' concentration. Land use and human activities largely determine the nature and level of pollutants. Greatest pollution was found at the industrial area and lowest in low density residential area.
