Blood levels of vitamin D metabolites, 25-hydroxycalciferol (25-OHD), and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D) were measured in 86 low and high parity Saudi pregnant women who were divided into two groups according to their parity (number of live or still births of more than 28 weeks of gestation): high parity (5 or more) and low parity (0-4). There appeared to be no significant difference between high and low parity women for 25-OHD and 1,25(OH)2D levels. Repeated pregnancies of less than 2 years and large multiparity did not appear to influence the level of vitamin D. It was suggested that milk and yogurt be fortified with vitamin D.(rah)
