The importance of questionnaire wording: assessments of weights as an example
1987
Price, J.H. | Desmond, S.M. | Hallinan, C.J.
A survey using 5 forms of a 14-item questionnaire assessed students' perceptions of how silhouette drawings of various weights would change when descriptors of end-points describing heavy and thin weights were changed. Statistical analyses of the results indicated that perceptions of weight change when end-point descriptors of weight are varied. Differences between female and male students are discussed. It is concluded that the potential for different interpretations of words used in a questionnaire must be considered by researchers since they can influence the survey results.(wz)
